Chihuahua Puppies – Small And Adorable!
Chihuahua puppies are the smallest natural breed of dog in the world. If you are looking to purchase a Chihuahua puppy, you will find that these pups are loyal, loving, and gentle with their families. They are graceful and energetic and require excessive attention, as they tend to cling to their owners and are unhappy if you are away all the time.
The Chihuahua originated in what is now Mexico with the Toltec Indians. Its ancestor, the Techichi, may date back as far as the 9th century. The Indians used this dog breed for religious purposes. It wasn’t until 1904 that the first Chihuahua was registered with the AKC.
As a whole, a healthy Chihuahua will be very short and thin, though well-muscled, and weigh very little. The AKC requires competing dogs to be six pounds or less, but some varieties can be over nine pounds. When looking at puppies for sale, you’ll find that Chihuahuas come in many varieties. Some have short hair; others have long hair. All should have a well-rounded head with an almost disproportionately small muzzle. Ears should be large and held erect; the Chihuahua will often let you know how it is feeling with the position of its ears. These pups should also have a level back and rounded rib cage. The dog’s tail should be long and curl upward, sometimes even touching the puppy’s back.
As a whole, Chihuahuas are great pets because they don’t require many dog supplies or consume large amounts of dog food. Be sure to have some toys; these dogs are very restless and playful. Also, have a dog bed of some kind so that your pet has somewhere to sleep; being so small, these canines are easily stepped on or kicked and injured.
Some notable personality standards that you’ll find in a Chihuahua include boldness. They tend to not notice how small they really are and will stand up in defense much like a large dog would upon feeling threatened. Also, they can be very “clingy”. In other words, these puppies will not adjust well to owners or families who are never at home or who travel frequently. They need a lot of love and affection and tend to be lap dogs.
