Cocker Spaniel Puppies – A Sporting Friend!
The smallest member of the sporting family, cocker spaniel puppies are some of the best dogs to acquire for small children. A cocker spaniel puppy will immediately befriend a child with a virtually unbreakable bond. These puppies are well behaved, rarely challenging a master, and they are highly intelligent. Cocker spaniels usually do not require formal dog training, but when provided, they will take to it quickly.
While being gentle puppies, they are also lively and playful, making them excellent choices for a family dog. They are loyal dogs, but as young puppies, they should be well socialized to avoid shyness later in life. Cocker spaniels enjoy company and do not live happy lives without being around people. They thrive on attention from humans.
One of the few problems with spaniels is that they are not easily housebroken. Beyond that, some like to bark a lot, but spaniels have fewer behavioral issues than most other dog breeds. These dogs do tend to get along well with not only humans but also other canines and all animals in general.
Most cocker spaniels live long, healthy lives, reaching anywhere between 12 and 15 years of age. These dogs are not prone to most illnesses, and the most common health concerns for spaniels are cataracts and glaucoma. Cocker spaniels require regular exercise and can do okay in an apartment with ample walking, but do best with at least a small yard for outdoor play.
Cocker spaniels do not get large, and in adulthood, reach a very manageable size of about 15 inches in height and 15-30 pounds in weight. With many different color variations, it’s easy to please a child by allowing them to pick their favorite puppy of the litter from a reputable dog breeder. For those looking for a low-maintenance family dog, these puppies are an excellent choice.
