Dog Beds - Sweet Dreams Fido!
Most dogs have a need for dog beds. Many pet owners opt to house their dogs in an extravagant designer dog bed, while others simply build their puppies a crate or box with blankets and pillows that equate to a bed. Depending on how detailed of a setup the owner desires, many pet stores offer a complete bedding setup for dogs, with varying levels of comfort.
Some beds are simply fluffy, pillow-like setups, while more complex bedding may be designed to imitate a real house, with an interior that contains a spot for food and water, as well as an entire bed. Some owners even have their pets names put on their bedding.
Although it is common to get carried away with these trendy dog supplies, some animals prefer the simplicity of a blanket or two that they can rearrange or tear up without damaging any expensive materials.
One of the best things an owner can offer his or her dog as a bed is old blankets that have been used for human beds in the past. These blankets smell like the owner and offer comfort to the pet when it cannot be beside the owner.
Soft bedding offers dogs and puppies a place of their own to sleep and relax so that it is less likely they will be bothersome to owners or develop a habit of climbing on furniture.
One way to teach your pet to sleep in its bed is through crate training. Place the bed in the crate for a period of time, and teach the dog to sleep in the crate at night. After a period of time, the bed may be removed from the crate, and when the owner goes to sleep, the dog will be used to heading to its bed for the night.
If the dog prefers to be enclosed, an owner can even build a pet bed out of a corrugated box, covering it with blankets and/or pillows.
