Dog Treats – Who’s Been A Good Boy!

Dog treats are often used as a reward for good behavior.  However, a dog treat can offer much more than just a special feeling for the dog.  They can provide a snack, additional vitamins, or even teeth cleaning for your puppy.

Like humans, dogs sometimes need a snack as a booster between feedings.  They may feel hungry, and a full bowl of dog food would be inappropriate, eventually leading your dog to have weight problems.  However, a small snack between feedings can curb the hunger, as well as making the dog feel like he’s receiving a bonus.

Treats usually taste better to a dog than regular food, so they will learn to behave in exchange for these tidbits as a reward.  Dog training is more easily accomplished with the assistance of treats, allowing the dog a bite every time he performs a command correctly.  Treats can also be used to teach a dog tricks, such as rolling over or fetching.

Other treats include essential vitamins.  Many pet owners experience issues once in awhile with their puppy not wanting to eat its regular food.  Sometimes, treats will remedy this situation, or at least fill in temporarily to be sure your pet is receiving the necessary vitamins and nutrition it needs to function until this rebellion ends.

Some treats actually help to clean your dog’s teeth, containing abrasives and special crystallized particles to give your dog fresher breath and cleaner, healthier teeth and gums.

Often, when purchasing gifts for pets, treats are a good choice.  You can’t always be sure that a pet will take to bones, toys, or certain types of beds.  However, almost all dogs like most flavors of treats, so it’s hard to go wrong.

So, while treats need to be used for a specific purpose and should not replace your dog’s daily diet, they can be helpful in many ways, including simply making your puppy a happier pet.
