Labrador Puppies – The Ideal Family Pet.

Labrador puppies are some of the sweetest dogs available as pets today.  If you are looking for a family oriented dog that is good with children, lab puppies are a safe bet.  Labs are trustworthy and sweet tempered around children, with a playful personality that makes them enjoyable as pets.  A Labrador has a tendency to enjoy the water, so if you have a pool and don’t want a wet dog, make sure it does not have access to the pool area.

Though excellent dogs that take well to dog training, a Labrador puppy that is left alone with no toys or supervision can easily become destructive to its environment, so be aware of anything that the dog has access to. 

A Labrador puppy should come from a reputable dog breeder, who is aware of the inherent health issues found in Labradors, including hip dysplasia and eye disorders.  The breeder will be able to help you look at the puppies for sale and help you to choose the most reliable puppy for you.  Your new pet should be proportionate and have no vision problems as a puppy.  Although this does not guarantee freedom from future issues, it provides a good starting point. 

Labradors should be energetic and playful, so avoid any puppies that seem lazy or overly cautious.  They are watchdogs, so they may be wary of strangers, but they should not completely shy away.  If you do not have ample space for a grown lab to romp and play, you must have a lifestyle that allows time for frequent walks and other exercise activities.  A sedentary lab is not a healthy animal.

Grooming of a Labrador is quite simple; dog supplies should include a brush or comb and shampoo.  Frequent brushing is best, as these are average shedders, but only bathe when necessary.  This will help to maintain the shine and thickness of the Labrador’s coat.
