Maltese puppies look angelic, with a small body (classified as a toy breed) and long, silky white hair.  With their gentleness and affection, a Maltese puppy is a popular pet for families, as well as for aging individuals looking for a canine companion.

A Maltese may be small, but this dog is also energetic and eager to play.  Though one of the gentlest dog breeds around, you can also expect your new puppy to be fearless and bold.

Though a Maltese is one of the best puppies for a small child, it may not be appropriate for a child too young to understand that rough play can hurt the dog.  Until the child is old enough to learn to care properly for any dog, their play together should always be supervised.  However, the Maltese is typically not an endangerment to children or other animals and is quite a loving dog.

It is not recommended to look at puppies for sale within a pet shop; Maltese dogs should be purchased from a breeder or exhibitor.  Those in pet shops typically come from puppy mills and are not cared for in terms of assuring the best health, quality, and socialization of the dogs.

By using a dedicated dog breeder, you are assured a happy, healthy puppy with guaranteed quality.  Also, the breeder will take into account your lifestyle and help you pick the correct puppy accordingly, sometimes choosing a younger pup and other times, for busier owners, offering a young adult that’s already trained.
