Pomeranian Puppies – Small Is Beautiful!

Pomeranian puppies are some of the smallest dogs you can purchase, and, as such, are very fragile.  A newborn Pomeranian puppy is small enough that three of these infants can be held in the palm of your hand.  However, as they grow into full-sized dogs, this breed is an intelligent and energetic sort and can become an enjoyable small companion.

Most Pomeranians are loyal and eager to learn, so start dog training early.  Socialization of small pups assures that they will be tolerant of other animals in their environment, and teaching them early on when and how much to bark can avoid annoying noise issues later.

Pomeranians make excellent watchdogs and are very alert to strangers and any new sound in the environment.  This breed is a great choice for older people and does well with families if children are taught to respect the dog’s space.  These puppies should not be given overly much attention, as this will cause them to become demanding.

When inspecting puppies for sale, be sure to check the health of the parents with the dog breeder.  These small dogs have tendencies toward several health issues.  Dislocated kneecaps, heart and skin problems, and eye infections are common ailments for Pomeranians.  To avoid early tooth decay and loss, feed your Pomeranian dry dog food, and be sure that the vet cleans the puppy’s teeth at every visit.

Also, when buying dog supplies, be sure to include a good brush and lint brush.  These dogs shed constantly, so you’ll want a way to clean up the hair.  Consistent brushing will help to keep the coat healthier and minimize balding later in life.

Overall, the Pomeranian is an excellent little dog to purchase, especially for those who don’t have a large yard or wish to have a small companion that they can travel with easily.  Just be aware that this breed needs to be taken for regular check ups to ensure that it remains as healthy as possible for its 15-year average life span.
