Pug Puppies – Your Playful Friends!

Originally developed in China, pug puppies have become an adorable favorite pet in the United States.  The pug puppy is a playful and loving breed that makes them excellent family dogs, especially for those with small children in the house.

A pug typically has a short, small body with profuse wrinkles, and its face tends to retain the features of a puppy throughout its life, all of which make it cute and cuddly.  The fur of a pug is typically very soft, not coarse, and short, and tends to be either silver or fawn (a tan or brown) in color, with a black mask of hair covering the face.  These puppies have very flat faces and should not have a protruding muzzle.

Though not imported to England until the 1600’s, this breed of dog began in China many centuries earlier.  This ancient pug breed was referred to as a Foo or Fu, and ancestors to the modern pug actually appeared in Russia and France much earlier than the canine we see today.

The pug is considered part of the toy family and is a small dog, requiring less dog food than many breeds.  They are popular, and for this reason it can be hard to find puppies for sale.  Check local newspaper listings of puppies being sold frequently if you are really interested in buying a pug.

As for dog training, little is required, except for the basic house training for puppies.  These puppies are very intelligent and well-mannered, making them easy to raise from a puppy with minimal effort.

Things to avoid when choosing your pug include shyness, odd coloring, protruding muzzles, long bodies, and bad tempers.  A pug should be outgoing and playful, never cowering from a stranger who is genuinely kind and loving.

If you are unsure whether the puppy is healthy, speak to a vet prior to purchasing so that you can be sure your pug will live a long, happy life with you.
