Is It Right To Have A Dog Of Puppy Age Spayed?

Having a dog, that is puppy age spayed or neutered that is healthy as long been a topic of debate.  However, recently, vets have determined that to spay and neuter dogs and cats at an early age is not harmful as it was once believed.

In recent years, it has become common practice to spay or neuter a puppy as early as eight weeks.  The low amount of body fat found on such a young puppy allows for faster healing than it would on an older dog, and most vets now believe that, as long as the puppy is healthy and weighs at least two pounds, the spay or neuter procedure is completely safe.

Though tradition holds that puppies should be “fixed” at the age of six months, this has come to seem as though it was a myth that was perpetrated and repeated through the ages, based on nothing. 

Perhaps it is because it keeps puppies controlled in terms of breeding and copulating instincts at an early age, but this is no longer the gospel in terms of rules and regulations for spaying or neutering dogs.

In fact, if you are waiting for your puppy to be six months old, that time passes in a flash, and you are quite likely to miss this “deadline”.  Early age spaying and neutering assures that the step has already been taken to help control animal population.

These procedures can be completed quickly and inexpensively, and it is required for all dogs adopted through an animal shelter.  Performing these operations can also save your dog from complications and diseases, such as uterine infection, mammary or testicular cancer, or even prostate problems.  Spending the small amount required to spay or neuter your dog could save you large sums of money on medical bills in the future.
